New Type of Surgery for Artery Aneurysm

University

A patient with abdominal artery aneurysm was rescued by a new type of surgery at the Cardiology Institute of the University.

Previously, this kind of disease could only be healed by opening up patients’ stomach and implanting a vascular prosthesis.  However, now the Clinics was the first in the region to conduct another type of surgery. The doctors of the Clinics and those of the Kenézy Hospital opened up the femoral artery of the patient through which they reached the problematic part of the artery and they put a special prosthesis, called stent graft there. This is a flexible metal net that can be led up to the proper place through the veins. This 3-hour long surgery reduces the several weeks convalescence to a few days.
