The new BMW factory will be built in Hungary, next to the city of Debrecen. The value of the investment reaches 1 billion euros.According to Harald Krüger, chairman of the BMW Group Board, the new plant for traditional and electric cars will play an important role in the global growth of the company. In the newly established plant, the capacity will be up to 150,000 vehicles per year and with this move, BMW will create more than 1,000 new jobs in the region.

In the future, all European plants of the BMW Group will be able to produce both electric and traditional models. Their new plant in Debrecen will be able to produce both conventional and automatic electromotor engines on the same line.

“The new factory will operate at the highest level in terms of digitalization, sustainability and manufacturing flexibility” – said Oliver Zippe, head of the BMW Group’s Board of Directors.

Europe is the most important market for BMW Group. In 2017, they sold 1.1 million cars in Europe, which is 45% of the company’s worldwide sales.

Debrecen is an ideal place to expand BMW Group’s production capacity. The city was chosen primarily due to its excellent infrastructure, good logistics connections and the location of the existing supplier network. The skilled workforce of the region was also a significant advantage during the selection.

BMW Group has been present in Hungary since 2004 with its own representative office. For many years, the company has been in close contact with the Hungarian supplier sector. Last year, they have acquired various parts and equipment, and ordered services from Hungarian suppliers for 1.4 billion euros.
