Justice Minister Attends EU General Affairs Council Session

Effective cooperation in Europe requires continuous dialogue between member states, Justice Minister Judit Varga said after a session of the European Union’s General Affairs Council on Tuesday, and expressed Hungary’s readiness to be a partner in such dialogues.

The meeting touched upon the European Democracy Action Plan, Varga said on Facebook, but added that “contentious issues remain”, such as ones around measures to promote democratic participation. She mentioned the Minority SafePack initiative as an example, which she said the European Commission had rejected despite the more than 1 million signatures it attracted. “In order to address the migration challenges more effectively, we consider it essential that the EU pays special attention to the Western Balkans region,” Varga said.
